At SONS KIA, we can test it for you with a voltmeter, and if you need a replacement, we can help you find one.

Battery Service FAQ

What Do I Do If My Car Is Dead?

When your battery dies, you might not be sure what you’re supposed to do. If you’re near Griffin, McDonough, or Stockbridge, then our mechanics can diagnose your vehicle once you arrive.

  • The Best Option: If your battery is dead and you have a friend who’s willing to help, then you can ask if they’d be willing to jumpstart your vehicle. When you jumpstart a vehicle, it’s important that you pay attention to your cables. You need to connect them in the right order, and once you have enough juice to start your model, you need to disconnect them in the right order.
  • Dealing with the Aftermath: If your car starts, then you should have an easy time reaching our dealership. If it still won’t start, then you could potentially have a problem with some other part like your starter. You can take your battery out of your model for testing, or you can have your vehicle towed.

What Killed My Battery?

Your starter needs a lot of power to start your vehicle, which is why a dead battery can leave you stranded.

  • Corroded Terminals: Corrosion can make it difficult for your battery to do its job. If your battery is corroded, you’ll usually see signs of corrosion around the terminals.
  • Your Battery Has Ran Its Course: If your battery has been underneath the hood of your car for a few years, then it might be nearing the end of its lifespan. Batteries don’t last forever, but we can find you a replacement today at SONS KIA.
  • You Drained Your Battery: Did you leave one of your lights on when you got out of your vehicle? Your alternator does a great job of charging your battery, but your battery only charges when the car is running. If you leave something on, it can slowly drain it until there’s nothing left.

What If It’s Not My Battery?

When your vehicle dies, your battery will usually take the blame. This doesn’t mean that it’s always a battery issue though, as you may be having problems with some of your other parts. For example, your alternator charges your battery. If it’s not working properly, then your battery is inevitably going to die. If your car won’t start, then it could be an issue with your starter. This is why it’s important to test your battery if your car is dying repeatedly. With a voltmeter, our mechanics can quickly tell whether or not your battery is the culprit. If it’s not, then our team will get to work and diagnose your vehicle.

If your battery keeps dying, then it may be time to get a new one. You can schedule a service appointment with our team at SONS KIA today.
